The Gothic Revival stonework and the setting in the School of Art building overlooking the South Quad, you really feel the history. Wine flights were exceptional with really thoughtful curation and the food was outstanding. Balanced, seasonal and perfect with the wine. The whole place feels relaxed and refined at once. Special mention in the NZ Michelin Guide is well deserved. A perfect winter evening. It’s located in one of the oldest historic buildings where the local university once stood, which gives it a special charm. The staff were incredibly friendly, attentive, and always ready with great recommendations for any dish, wine, or dessert. It was genuinely pleasant to talk with the waiters. In the evening I enjoyed a lovely wine on the terrace, fresh air, perfectly cooked fish with vegetables, a great cheese platter, and the highlight of the night — an apple tarte Tatin. It wasn’t cheap, but absolutely worth it.
