Ōnuku Rūnanga's marae on the Akaroa Harbour shore — where Ngāi Tahu chiefs first signed the Treaty in the South Island in 1840, and where the Crown delivered its apology to the iwi in 1998. The whare tīpuna Karaweko, opened in 1997, was the first fully carved meeting house raised on Banks Peninsula in a century.
