The buses of Christchurch
When the next bus reaches your stop, where every bus is right now, and how to get across town, live from Metro’s own feed, every route drawn the way it’s actually driven.
Next buses
The Bus Interchange, until you pick a stop.
Live arrivals load here, Metro’s own predictions for the stops you pick, counting down to the minute.
Times are Metro’s own predictions and move as the bus does; a bus a few minutes out is the surest. Bus realtime, Metro / ECan, CC BY 4.0.
Where they are now
Tap a bus to follow it. A filled marker is the feed’s last reported position; a hollow one is where the record estimates the bus has reached since, an estimate, not a report.
Plan a trip
An address, a stop or a suburb at each end, which routes connect them, where to board and get off, and the walk at each end, drawn on the map. Which way, not when: pair it with the board above for the time.
The way you pay is changing
- Tap what you already carry. A contactless card, phone or watch tags on like a Metrocard, same fares, no surcharge, and the fare cap and two free transfers inside two hours still apply.
- From 23 November 2026 there’s no Metrocard, no SuperGold card and no cash, and you tag off as well as on.
- A Motu Move card is free until 22 November at the Bus Interchange and about a hundred retailers ($5 minimum first top-up; $10 bought online). Spend down or refund any Metrocard balance.
- Concessions, child, youth, SuperGold, Community Services Card, Total Mobility, link to whatever you pay with at motumove.govt.nz.

Every route 36 numbers · 2,171 stops
The lines are the driven paths in Metro’s current GTFS feed, in the colour each route wears: hover a line or a card to light it up. The faint outlines are the city’s suburbs. The record’s route TL, the Orbiter (anticlockwise), the Orbiter (clockwise), route 87, route 17, route 28 draw no line: TL sits outside the Greater Christchurch feed; the Oa corridor now runs as Or; the Oc corridor now runs as Or; 87 sits outside the Greater Christchurch feed; 17 sits outside the Greater Christchurch feed; 28 sits outside the Greater Christchurch feed.
Questions, answered briefly
36 routes in the stop record, calling at 2,171 platforms, the Greater Christchurch network in Environment Canterbury’s layer, not just the city’s.
1, 207 stops in the record. Every route is on this page with its stop count.
The board at the top of this page reads Metro’s live predictions, pick your stop or let it find the ones near you, and it counts each bus down to the minute, refreshing as the buses move.
Two public layers, Metro’s GTFS feed draws the driven paths, and ECan’s stop layer (their Beta tree) lists the platforms and the routes each one serves; live positions and arrival times come from Metro’s realtime feed.
