THE XEW KING AND QUFFX OF NORWAY HAAKA IV. FORMERLY FRINGE AND PRINCESS CHARLES OF DENMARK, AND THEIR LITTLE SON. —Prom the Graphic. A HUGE TIMBER SHIPMENT S.S. ADANSI WITH A CARGO OF 1 "278 OOOet OF JaRRAH. DISCHARGING AT VICTORIA WHARF. The steamer Adansi lecently arrivedl at Dunedm with a cargo of 1278 000 supeificial feet of jarrah timber, and our illustrations depict the vessel discharging at the Victoria wharf, and the Jarrah Timber Company's yard at Dunedin. The cargo which is the largest that ever arrived at this port, was consigned to the local branch of Millar's Karri and Jarrah Company—a company operating largely in Australia and Europe but whose headquarters are in Western Australia. Some idea of the magnitude of their business may be gathered from the fact that they hold under lease and freehold close upon 2,000 000 acres of forest land, upon which 23 laige sawmills are in constant operation, giving employment to about 3000 men. There are 200 -niles of private railway laid down through the forests, and 30 locomotives and 350 trucks fire busily engaged conveying logs to the mills, and the sawn timber thence to the various ports, of which the company owns three private ones. It is claimed that this is the largest hardwood company in the world, and judging by the foregoing figures they are fully entitled to the name. At the three New Zealand branches—We.lington, Christchurch and Dunedm—the trade is steadily increasing, as the jarrah, on account of its extreme durability and other gocd' qualities finds great favour among engineers and builders for bridge-work, street-paving, and general building purposes.
