Christchurch on a map

The live map needs JavaScript, the records it draws do not. Every layer on it is also a page: consents, maintenance tickets, felt quakes, the suburbs, the streets, the photo wall, and the written record.

chch.live: Christchurch’s public record, readable. Council reports via Snap Send Solve, the Heritage NZ register, and Papers Past / DigitalNZ leads. A lead is not a claim; the desk decides what the archive supports.

Elsewhere, outbid.nz: the top bid puts your site on the Canterbury board. Everything on this site, A–Z.

Made in Christchurch by Merlin Stemmer, trying to make a really cool site about the city I love. He also made feedthecat.xyz, marly.studio and outbid.nz. Got an idea, spotted something wrong, or just want to say hello? stemmermerlin@gmail.com Need a site built? merlinstemmer.co.nz

Questions, answered briefly

What does the map show?

What Christchurch has reported to the council, potholes, graffiti, dumped rubbish, water leaks, each report pinned where it was filed. The last week shows by default; the range widens to a month.

How fresh is the map?

Live, reports appear as the council’s open feed publishes them, newest on top.

Where does the map data come from?

Christchurch City Council’s public report feed, the same record the address and street pages read.
