The reporter’s words

Maintenance issue and safety issue. See attached photo of Pentonville Close / Penruddock Rise corner, the entrance to this part of the subdivision which has not been maintained for some time. Also see photos attached of Holbrook Way trees (in roadway), which present a serious safety hazard. The trees originally planted, in small landscaped plots, along both sides of the road - within the actual roadway itself, and about one metres out from the curb, have not been maintained. Each feature originally contained a tree supported on two sides by two stanchions, which were held in place by right-angle steel brackets at ground level. There are approximately 35 such features, most with damaged or missing stanchions, and there are five or six where both the stanchions and trees are completely missing, making those particular features nothing more than a hole in the roadway, with steel brackets protruding through the soil. These pose a significant hazard to any pedestrian or cyclist, unaware of the holes, particularly at night. They also pose a hazard to unsuspecting motorist, who could damage their vehicles by driving into the holes. There are a variety of different trees that have been planted. none of which are currently in particularly good condition. Most of the original trees have died, and the more-recently introduced Cyprus trees are untidy and causing problems with roots cracking the footpaths etc. These problems will become more wide-spread unless some maintenance is undertaken urgently.
