The reporter’s words

I spoke with Cathy who lives at 300 Waterloo Road. She advised me that the 50 km/h sign was knocked over on the corner of Waterloo Road and Gilberthorpes Road When a large heavy motor vehicle towing a trailer made a left turn into Parker Street. It was due to be replaced however as yet it has not. This happened just before the lockdown. The volume of heavy motor vehicles on this road is out of control. I believe the neighbourhood have made a petition to do something about this. The simplest thing would be I guess to put signs up not allowing heavy motor vehicles to use Waterloo Road between Gilberthorpes Road and Carmen Road. It is a residential area with a school on one side and a park and a BMX Park on the other side of the road. The intersection of Waterloo Road, Parker Street, Gilberthorpes Road and Moffat Street is the third dangerous intersection in Christchurch with five rods all intersecting at one point. With a combination of stop signs and give way signs off I worked as a crash car for eight years in Christchurch and went to numerous crashes at this intersection. I see there is a sign on Waterloo and Taurima Street not allowing heavy motor vehicles into that street. It is hard to know why the heavy motor vehicles cannot use the main South Road and Carmen Road if they are heading north or East. In my opinion for what it is worth there will be a nasty accident due to these issues at some stage if something is not done
