The reporter’s words

I am writing to express my concern about the lack of action repairing the leak in the water main in Victoria/ Elizabeth Park outside my toby box. I have logged a job on 17/05/2020. The job number is H00537680. On 02/06/2020, a plumber from City Water came and told me the waterline is private line and repair was my responsibility. The plumber also told me before undertaking the repair that I need to turn off the water when carrying on this repair work. But the valve to turn off the water is located hundreds of meters away and tens of houses will be affected.  This pipe has been repaired on three occasions previously (that I am aware of) by the Christchurch City council. On one occasion after a heavy snow fall 10 odd years ago there was a fountain of water 10 meters high out into the fire break in the park. My neighbour, 21 Amherst Place, had a leak on the same line in January 2018. This leak had been fixed by council.  I have spoken to some of the immediate neighbours and am aware of a least 5 properties served by this water main all of which have council installed water meters just inside their respective boundaries while the main itself is in city council owned Victoria/ Elizabeth Park. My information leads me to believe this water main was installed by the Heathcote county council. I look forward to the Christchurch City Council repairing this leak as soon as possible before it gets any worse.
