Roading/Streets

The reporter’s words

the Wairakei/Grahams intersection has been recently upgraded, traffic lighting, bike rests, marking, etc. the Contractor hasn't removed the existing paint nor the existing reflective markers, and chose to paint black paint over. Driving from Northwest to southeast is confusing and dangerous, under the car headlights the old and the new markings looks EXACTLY the same and even if I know this, every single morning (5.30am) I have to double check as they reflect the light identically and I see both sets of markings in the same time. for example, the new line for going ahead has the reflective markers and the old white line right in the middle. I think is very dangerous and an accident will happen to someone new to the area driving by night, as all markings looks the same in the night. I don't have photos as I drive through this intersection, but I suggest you start with checking what the contractor was asked to do and what he reported back he did and he was paid for. if this was the scope of works, to paint over on asphalt road, is a very bad practice and need to be looked over, as it's not safe. regards Oana
