The reporter’s words
Large and historic marine pine at the entrance to Clifton Reserve appears to be dead or dying. At the base I noticed a strange series of holes in the roots. Closer inspection reveals at least 20 large holes drilled into the trunk and roots with what appears to be a white residue. It appears someone has deliberately vandalised and poisoned the tree. The loss of this beautiful and historic tree at the entrance to the reserve is terrible. The utmost effort should be taken to identify the perpetrators and to prosecute to the fullest extent of the law.
