The reporter’s words

Clearance of stagnant water and blocked culverts required. The last significant rain in Christchurch was 29 January. As at 11pm 2nd February the open street gutters remain full of rain water which is unable to drain due to blocked covered driveway culverts and earthquake damage. The water is full of bird shit, decaying leaf matter and is foul smelling. This is the case after any significant rain event and poses an ongoing health hazard. Clearance of the water and tree debris required to address the immediate problem. Long term remediation of earthquake damage to the road, kerb and gutters is required to provide adequate draining of storm water from Dudley Street. Due to the health hazard posed by stagnant and polluted water in the street these reports will be filed after every rain event until a functioning stormwater system is provided.
