The reporter’s words

New planting beds have been established at the intersection of forfar and westminster streets. The soil that was imported was infested with twitch (Elytrigia repens), convolvulus, oxalis and Californian thistles. forgive me if I have no faith that the council will prevent these from spreading, setting seed and invading the garden of every resident within a 100m radius, but I have seen these same weeds left to do just this in new beds on Warrington Street between forfar and Cranford. my understanding is that contracts for this type of work requires all soil to be free of these weeds. I work hard to keep my garden free of these sorts of weeds. The last thing rate payers need is council spreading them throughout the city in some misguided effort to beautify.
