The reporter’s words

We have a group of surf life savers doing some off season training, based at the Council Owles Tce compound. The area has been used by another party previously, and there is a lot of broken plastic, wooden rubbish (with screws & nails) and just general gravel and stones everywhere. As these are the people that volunteer their time to keep the beaches patrolled over summer period, we were wondering if perhaps a street sweeper could go into the area and move all the debris to the outside edges of the parking area in the compound. Also, the boat ramp (which is a bit bumpy due to the EQs) is very slimey, muddy and slippery. There are a few groups using this boat ramp (waka paddlers, dragon boaters, our district surf lifesavers and also the general public) and it's quite dangerous. A good water blast would make the boat ramp far more usable and safe.
