Flooding
Reported Tuesday, 27 July 2021 at 11:36 am, 284 Okuti Valley Road, Peraki 7591, New Zealand.
The reporter’s words
Hi. Same issue as all of last year. Whenever it rains, a channel of water runs along the side of the road. There has been some excavator trying to solve this during the week by putting in a cutoff drain as shown, but this is not working. Asphalt was also placed to try fix the erosion damage but as shown it is not diverting the water, but rather water is just running over that and against the grass, making the two patches of ashlphalt redundant. They didn't place ashat the whole way down along this edge either, so the water erodes the bit before and after. The water was started to wash away the newly placed AP40 driveway entrance that the contractor had placed same as before. I think the problem has gotten worse. Suggest instead of patches and stop gap measures, a full 40m section, 400mm wide of asphalt needs to be placed on the inside of this corner, with a 40mm crown lip to prevent the water from eroding further, and prevent the property at 270s driclveway from eroding away again. Thus will continue untill this is fized properly. The main cause of all this water is that that culvert under the driveway to 280 Okuti Road is far to small, so the council drains coming down the valley road hislt that, over top, and cross the road, adding to the above flow that causes the erosion. I have also attached a photo of this pipe, which looks like around 250mm in diameter. It needs to be replaced with a pipe around twice that size around 500mm, to be able to handle the quantity of water that comes down the road. Please action this as it happens every time it rains and the recent works undertaken by the contractor, with good intentions, have no lt solved the issue, but have in fact made it worse. Thank you.
