The reporter’s words

The new layout for the shared cycleway/footpath is not configured correctly, in my view. The soon-to-be commissioned lights put the pedestrians to the left side of the west going crossing and have a dog-leg for them in the centre island but a narrow space for the cyclists. I am suspecting the dog leg is for blind folk, otherwise there is no sense to this. The amount of space for pedestrians in the centre is huge where in fact it is rare to have a single pedestrian crossing at the same time as I do, but I have had four cyclists crossing at the same time. There will be not enough room for four cyclists, especially when other cyclists are coming against them. It would make much more sense to have the pedestrians on the narrow strip, with a rubble strip telling them the edge of the island. The dogleg would also serve to discourage cyclists making a dash across both lanes.
