The reporter’s words

To whom it may concern. My family lives on the corner of Pratt St and New Brighton Rd, Christchurch. Ever since the earthquakes New Brighton Rd has flooded at most high tides. Last year New Brighton Rd was finally fixed and new gutters were put in. I'm sure this wasn't a cheap exercise. As you can see from the photos I took in 2015 (before the road was fixed) and today in 2017: nothing has changed. It is plain to see the gutters/drains are not working. We have had 30% taken off our land value on our rates. We got no compensation for this and we know people that are nowhere near the red zone and did get compensated. Our insurance has doubled as we are in a so called flood zone. What has been done to stop New Brighton Rd flooding and protect our houses from flooding? Will my kids be grown up and left home before we get footpaths back again? Yours sincerely, Mark O'Malley 350 Keyes Rd., New Brighton.
