The reporter’s words

Cycle way green glass paint causing punctures. On Tues 17 April I got a puncture while riding my bike along the newly painted cycleway. The cycleway was the one that connects Strickland St to the City (South to North). When I got to my place of work I removed one small shard of glass that look remarkably like the glass used in the composite to coat the cycle ways. Several people in my neighbourhood have also commented on punctures from the cycleway. The post is visible on Facebook. I see this as an issue that need further investigation. Why are we using glass to coat our cycleway? What is the value that the glass offers? How has this composite been tested because to me it’s just not right. It’s causing punctures. Is there an environmental impact here that hasn’t been understood? There are glass shards all over the cycle ways and in gutters along the streets. The glass shards pose a safety risk to anyone that falls onto the road. Please can you follow up on this as I don’t understand why we are using this composite.
