Roading/Streets

The reporter’s words
When riding my mountain bike on Saturday I turned onto this cycle way to proceed along towards Hornby . A ride I do 4 times per week. There is often gravel on this pathway but is never swept up. On Saturday there were also larger stones, one of which I rode over taking my front wheel out resulting in my landing heavily on my side with injuries to my hip leg elbow and leg which I am not pleased about as not only am I injured but my riding jacket and shorts are ruined. I phoned Bryce Moir from HEB Construction who suggested I may have been going too fast and it is a right of way. Firstly me speed was slow and cautious as I am in my 70 th year and secondly it is a paved right of way and should be able to be negotiated safely without slippery gravel on the surface. I realise there is construction going on but from s Health and safety perspective this right of way should be regularly maintained. I am not happy about this lack of safety plus I am unable to exercise for a while and I am out of pocket for new cycling shorts and jacket. HEB Construction Manager says this is not their responsibility so write to the CCC for action Bryan Hale 021 2770677 91 Harakeke St 8014
