The reporter’s words

Note that at least three of the well-established native trees planted on the northern side of the river have been chopped down to less than half their size. That includes a lemonwood, a kohuhu, and a karamu. I doesn't look like the work of council contractors as there are no overhead lines or other structures that these trees were interfering with and the dead tops of the trees have been just left there. I wonder if a local land owner just across the river has done this to "improve" their view. If so, I'm not pleased and wonder what the consequences should be. I like this corner of the city and its patches of native forest and go out of my way to run here every fortnight. These public trees that have taken many years to establish and should be looked after and private land owners should not be allowed to cut down trees on public land. (I wanted to let you know about this but I am aware that the city has bigger issues to deal with and I'm happy to leave this to your discretion.)
