The reporter’s words
Several times a week (3-8) the kiwi rail depot at Waltham has an alarm sound. It’s a loud sound that is designed to be heard well. But I can hear it from inside my house! It frequently goes off at 6am and 10pm for around 30 minutes. It’s too loud and frequent considering there are lots of residential homes nearby. I’m about 1km from the depot and can hear it inside. I think the alarm could be reduced in volume/time and design so that it’s more fitting for the area it’s located in.
