This is a duplicate report. The original report was sent on Oct 14, 2018. This is a duplicate report. The original report was sent on Aug 06, 2018. Hi, the section of road on Heberden Ave running from Wiggins street to Nayland Street has been closed due to rock fall since the February earthquakes in 2011. There are fences up at either end, although one fence on the Nayland Street side has been smashed down by a car and has been down for a number of weeks now. My query is weather the fences can be removed to allow for walking access along this part of the street. There is a large empty section in this area, adjacent to the road, where houses once stood and if a track were to be cut along the fence line in these empty sections this would put walking access far away from the cliff and right next to the houses that currently neighbour this section (and if it’s safe enough for people to reside in these houses permanently then it should be more than ok for people to access this thoroughfare on foot). The section of road between here fences has overgrown significantly but no new sizeable rocks have come down since the original fall and on a daily basis on my walk in this area I see a number of people accessing this section by climbing the fence. It would be amazing if these fences were removed and proper access was allowed as this would mean the entire stretch of Heberden ave were open again as I know that this road is very popular with local walkers. I think that maybe this area of road has been forgotten as opposed to still be closed due to fear of rockfall. It would be amazing to regain access to this area once again and make it a shorter walk to the beach in the summer!! Please consider this!!
