Traffic Signals
Reported Tuesday, 17 June 2025 at 8:27 pm, 366 Blenheim Road, Upper Riccarton, Christchurch 8041, New Zealand.
The reporter’s words
When turning right from Annex Rd to Blenheim Rd in the evening, the light cycle is too short. The whole green to red cycle is only a few seconds. This is a safety issue for cyclists, because there is insufficient time to cross the intersection (even if starting at the first hint of green), before the Blenheim Rd traffic gets a green signal. The orange time needs to be longer. Secondly, the vehicle/ cycle detection ground loop does not detect cyclists turning right at this same intersection.
