The reporter’s words
While cycling down Barrington St outside 6/165 a large white van was parked on the side of the road. Moving out towards the centre of the road to avoid the van which had cast a large shadow I hit a fire plug which was capped well below the road surface. The front wheel of my bike sunk into the recess and threw me to the ground in front of oncoming traffic. Fortunately the white Toyota Hilux truck stopped and protected me and a person from the truck and a workman rushed to help me.
