Roading/Streets

Reported Saturday, 16 November 2019 at 3:09 pm, 19 Whitfield Street, Sumner, Christchurch 8081, New Zealand.

The reporter’s words

Very heavy congestion witnessed on multiple occasions with traffic trying to leave (and often get into) Sumner on a sunny day. I've lived in Sumner for 12 years and this traffic congestion has only become an issue since New World in Redcliffes has been rebuilt and I assume the traffic lights timing isn't correct. The traffic jams completely gridlock Sumner (with traffic stuck along esplanade, Nayland, Colenso Re and back along Wakefield Ave). Traffic was also backed up all along causeway to ferry bridge the other week with traffic trying to get into Sumner at 5pm. Please sort the timing of the Redcliffes traffic lights out. It's dangerous for the bikers as more cars are now trying to avoid the grid lock and going up via summit rd or Lytellton, inexperienced drivers on these narrow roads! thanks
