The reporter’s words

The playground in New Brighton is less than 2 years old, as a long time resident and rate payer of North Brighton I am astounded how so much money has been spent to build an amazing playground that is now been left so long without maintenance it is a disgusting state. Prior to putting this playground in to New Brighton the ongoing daily maintenance should have been part of the expenditure. If this had been in other parts of Christchurch I am certain this would be well maintained . We are now looking at spending further money on salt pools which will no doubt end up in the same state. it is very sad that these wonderful facilities are built but neglected due to lack of maintenance from the council. I have attached photos of the unkempt gardens around the playground , the balustrade along the Pier that look like they have had no attention and the filthy toilet doors in the playground. If we want tourists and Community to enjoy New Brighton and for it to go ahead this needs to be addressed prior to the opening of the pools and ongoing.
