Avonhead Memorial Cemetery
A cemetery of the city: lying in Avonhead, the ground as the open map draws it.
Where it lies
The grounds as OpenStreetMap outlines them, a mapper’s draw, not the surveyed title. The strong outline is the suburb.
The register of plots
The council’s cemetery register files 5,875 plots in this ground, 4,710 marked occupied, burials filed from 1944 to 2026. The register names everyone buried here, this page names only those seventy years gone or more (9 of them).
Seventy years gone or older: newer burials are counted above, never listed. The council keeps the whole register and its own grave search for the rest.
The ground under it
The plans and surveys kept here, asked once of the pin. The whole stack answers live: what stood on this ground →

In Avonhead, Christchurch, the map draws its grounds as an outline, inside the city boundary.
The map tags it none, a mapper’s tag, not the council’s register.
Partly, the council’s register files 5,875 plots in this ground, and burials seventy years gone or older can be found by surname on this page. Newer burials are counted but never named here; the council’s own cemetery search holds the whole register.
The record behind this
The ground is OpenStreetMap’s, a named node or way tagged landuse=cemetery inside the city boundary (ODbL). The ground is the map’s; the graves are the council’s, the register of plots above is their Green Assets layer (gmCemeteryPlot), names included only where the death is seventy years gone or more.
