The reporter’s words

My photos show one example of about 12 trees on the west side of Avonhead Park that need sockets and branches at the bottom of the trunk removed. They have been like this for several years. Also photographed are 2 Kauris and one Magnolia Grandiflora which have died. The Kauris are the last remaining 2 of several planted a few years ago, most of which died early on. What a ridiculous waste of rate payers’ money planting trees that would struggle in Canterbury weather conditions, and not giving them adequate water. The Magnolias too will struggle with shade from the larger trees in the area and dryness The park is now very noisy from the motorway traffic on Russley Rd, and would benefit from denser plantings inside and outside the boundary fence.
