The reporter’s words

Environmental damage to native coastal wetland. The upcoming obstacle course (mud run) in South Brighton domain has participants running through the tidal wetlands in 2 or 3 places. This is a fragile ecosystem providing habitat for crustaceans, fish, native plants, insects, wading birds such as the Godwit and grey heron, as well as other species such as Kingfisher. The habitat has not yet recovered from last years event that saw several hundred participants destroy these wetlands. Recommend reviewing the environmental assessment that you conducted for this event and re-routing the course away from this habitat. Photos attached show one of the proposed loops through the wetland. You will note damage from last years event is still evident, with some restoration occurring (namely crustacean burrows have returned). Please review immediately as the event is due to occur this week I think. Many thanks.
