Graffiti

The reporter’s words
The state of these vacant and neglected Council-owned properties is drawing antisocial behaviour, and causing issues that are affecting neighbouring properties. Aside from previous issues with squatters and vandalism which I have reported to the council on numerous occasions, I found a stolen vehicle in the garage of the property over the weekend. It has since been recovered by the police, who have left the gates and garage open to further antisocial activity, with police tape ironically flapping in the breeze. It appeared that the property is being used for some form of criminal enterprise, with said vehicle having been dismantled within the property. The two vacant units neighbouring have also been vandalised. I also observed a suspicious vehicle within the (supposedly locked and security monitored) council yard adjacent to this property recently (gate pictured). My partner and I inadvertently disturbed whatever activity was taking place, and the vehicle approached us at pace and in a threatening manner causing us to flee, leaving my partner shaken and worried that our house nearby may be targeted. Upon inspection it appears the lock on this gate has been cut around this time, and it remains unsecured. Again, this was reported to the police (although no action has been taken), but is another example of the unkempt council properties drawing unwanted activity to the area. I was previously told that these properties were due for demolition around this time last year, but since then I have been informed that any action has been delayed for another 5 years or so. I question whether the handling of these properties is viewed as acceptable practice by the council. Will anything be done to curb the increasing issues that these neglected properties are bringing to the local area? Going by what I have observed, It seems that simply mowing the lawns occasionally for the next serveral years isn't going to cut it (excuse the pun).
