The reporter’s words

Hi, I have spent an hour and a half clearing our gutters. I live in a street with a high proportion of elderly people. After nearly 10 years of clearing gutters I am over it. Still happy to unblock the grates but over gutters. Many of the ramps that allow cars to access properties are now "permanently " blocked. This courses large puddles to develop even when the gutters are free of leaves. Today I discovered 2 stormwater sumps are completely full and not functional at the top end of Makora St. Our street was due for a maintenance in 2010 but because of earthquakes this was put on flood, as Christchurch had bigger problems. Now 11 years on surely there is enough money in the budget to waterblast the muck out from under the ramps. Cold, wet and exhausted of Makora St.
