The reporter’s words
I am concerned about the amount of roadside rubbish accumulating on rural roadsides in the Lyttelton Mt Herbert area. Not just in the location recorded here but all around the harbour and over Gebbies Pass. The contractors do not appear to be collecting it at all. Where vegetation has been cut or sprayed the rubbish hidden within it becomes visible. Shiny things are particularly visible. Some of the rubbish has obviously been there for months, if not years. I think the contractors need to get out of their vehicles sometimes and actually walk along the roadsides picking up rubbish. It looks shabby and gives the whole district an unkempt appearance. Please clean it all up. If picking up roadside rubbish is part of the road maintenance contract then the contractor is not performing.
