The reporter’s words

Hi. Whats the purpose of blocking off the footpath outside the Harley building please? Who has done this? I work nearby and am well aware the building is an earthquake hazard. Additionally there has been vandalism and even furniture thrown out the window at passers-by by vandals. Clearly the building has issues. There has been one fence against the building for years but footpath access has been maintained. In the last few weeks a second has been added and the footpath is closed. A sign says to “use the other side” but this is not actually a practical option to access many buildings and requires a long detour because of plantings. Pedestrians are being forced to use the road. I am unaware of firm plans for the restoration of this building and am concerned this situation may last months or years. How long will this footpath remain closed? Why? If the reason is for safety, I ask this. Compared to the risk of falling debris or vandalism, what is the risk to pedestrians indefinitely being forced on to the road? Kind regards J Morris
