The reporter’s words

Hi Just wondering about the northbound closure of Antigua st between tuam st. and Oxford tce. This is the main South to North cycle way in the city with hundreds of cyclists every day accessing the hospital or heading over the boatshed footbridge to the schools and businesses north of the city. Please tell me this cycle route will be maintained during the prolonged build at the hospital outpatients site. Currently cyclists are having to go the wrong way against traffic down this short section or else dodge pedestrians on the footpath as there is no quick detour. This will lead to injury. A northbound cycle lane needs to be maintained and could easily be achieved with use of cones or a fence. For the sake of a 20-30m long stretch of works it seems a shame and danger to sacrifice this important commuter cycle route, at a time where we are trying to get people commuting by bike. Regards, jeremy.
