The reporter’s words

There is a swale along Woodville St and unfortunately the council tree outside my house has been planted directly over the swale. In recent months whenever there has been some rain, water has pooled at the base of the tree suggesting there is some blockage in the swale. It takes some time to drain away which is not good for the health of the tree. I note that the two magnolias, same species and same age, either side of my property have already flowered whereas the one on my lawn is still some way off. This pooling of water is relatively recent, maybe just in the last six months, and may indicate a greater problem with stormwater drainage. The previous tree in the same position, a mountain beech, died - rotted out from roots, which is maybe no surprise. But there wasn't the pooling around the plant that there is now.
