The reporter’s words

The dog park in Rawhiti Domain is in a terrible state, I don;t believe anything has been done there for years. The seat on the western side of the park is being undermined by dogs constantly digging underneath - note in the pictures how far under they are digging and the underside of the concrete pad is showing. We try hard to put the sand back under, but there are owners and dogs not aware of the apparent risks. The more that is dug out, the softer the sand becomes and this makes it even easier for dogs to dig further under. The thought of the slab cracking and falling on top of a dog is one I can not bear to think of but the possibility is there. Please attend to this, and while you are at it, the rest of the park could do with some attention, sand blowing everywhere, sand up against the fences so that now they can almost be jumped over, cover the tree roots so walking is a little easier, especially at the entrances, lay some grass and put in some decent watering stations. What you allow the East to put up with in comparison to other areas is nothing short of downright discrimination. They would not allow this at the Groynes, or Victoria Park or Halswell Quarry - even the Shirley park is in better condition.
