Roading/Streets

Reported Friday, 13 May 2022 at 12:15 pm, 71 Kilmore Street, Christchurch Central City, Christchurch 8013, New Zealand.

The reporter’s words

This report is about the traffic lights on Kilmore Street at the intersection of Durham Street North. In general, the lights on Kilmore Street are well coordinated. When one gets a green and keeps driving at 50 kmph, they keep getting successive greens travelling west. But the lights at Durham Street North obstruct this smooth flow. The green at the intersection of Kilmore and Durham for Kilmore traffic becomes green TOO QUICKLY after the green at Colombo. So, by the time the traffic reaches Durham, only the first few get green, MOST get red. Then, when they get green at Durham, the lights at Montreal turns red, in their face. Having travelled on Kilmore several times a week - although always between 4.30 and 5 pm, I feel the timing of the green aspect for Kilmore St at the intersection with Durham St North needs to be corrected to get a better traffic flow and less driver frustration. I am available for any questions on 021-246-0308.
