The reporter’s words

Child and pedestrian hazard! with a near incident 14 July while using the walkway through to Victoria square from Victoria/Durham street intersection. Cars park randomly outside of the car park area off the Chester street extension in Victoria square adjacent to the ‘old courthouse/Huadu building. The exit from this parking area is open for cars get onto Durham st but some are crossing the walkway through the rear of the townhall /Victoria street loading area. On this particular near miss our 5yr old grandson was on his scooter and the driver didn’t appear to look for pedestrians. Is there a chance of the car park barrier being extended to enclose the area safely. While still allowing the cars to enter and exit the car park safely for everyone via a public road not a walkway.
