Street Gutters / Storm Water

Reported Thursday, 18 August 2022 at 5:34 pm, 18 Osmond Lane, Mount Pleasant, Christchurch 8081, New Zealand.

The reporter’s words

Stormwater drainage issue, ‘Ferrymead Reserve Drain’ bridge Osmond Lane, Mt Pleasant. There are two drains (0225 PCRR 1976 and 0150 AC 1976) at the top of the lane draining stormwater from the streets and properties above. When it rains the water pours out of them, down the channel next to the curbing towards the bridge. Another drain just before the bridge is badly positioned and most of the run off misses it, flowing directly onto the bridge. Over time this has rusted the bridge supports. Being a private lane residents had to pay $13.5k in 2019 to have the supports replaced. A recent inspection showed new surface rusting, so the problem persists. Residents argue the source of the problem is not from our lane and ask the council to remedy. Alternatives 1. Connect the two drains at the top of the lane to existing piping. 2. Relocate drain before the bridge to collect ALL the run off. 3. Create a small channel after drain in point 2 diverting run off to Ferrymead Reserve drain.
