Park - General Request
Reported Saturday, 9 March 2024 at 1:13 pm, CPVH+G8 Christchurch, Canterbury, New Zealand.
The reporter’s words
I thought the estuary area was supposed to be a nature reserve? There 40 - 50 people gathering shellfish in excessive amounts here today. People were filling chilly bins and bags into their car then going back for more. One guy was struggling across the road with a bulging shopping bag so must have been well over 20 kg’s. There does not appear to be any signage about harvesting in the estuary. If it can be done, what can be taken, when, what size and how many. This needs some control in place.
