The reporter’s words

Yet more tagging on the new mural at the Lyttelton skate park. Also more on the jail walls around the school grassy area. I don’t understand why the council would be willing to spend so much has been spent on this mural and ongoing tag removal in this general area, yet not able to try a few security cameras to deter or catch the taggers. There are regularly people cleaning the tags off this area and the surrounding historic jail walls, but I feel it would be better dealt with by deterrence and prevention measures. I live across the road and go there daily with my dogs and just feel a deep sense of gloom and shame in the mornings starting my day to find new tags on such a regular basis. It just makes me mad. Please can you look at what can be done or perhaps talk to the community on the issue so at least we understand if there is a good reason why you can’t try cameras up high on the poles in the area. It would also help with the summer night problems in the Rose Gardens. Daily on my walks I do a round cleaning up new rubbish, usually beer bottles to get them before they get smashed everywhere. So maybe because locals are cleaning it up it might not be obvious how bad the problem is. But it would be nice not to have a reason to expect to find something new and unpleasant every morning I am there. Thanks
