Bikes already have a safe lane on BOTH sides of the road here.. they speed SO FAST along the coastal pathway making it quite unsafe and unpleasant for walkers. Perhaps in parts where there are efficient cycle lanes then the coastal pathway should be pedestrian only. It's an accident waiting to happen with the speeds the bikes do alongside walkers.
