The reporter’s words

For some time I have been concerned about the disappearance of the view of the Avon River for those of us who like to stroll along the banks on the paths put there for that purpose Incresingly natives have been planted along the banks obscuring the river While I accept there maybe some ecological reason for this there is no reason for these planting’s to be full of weeds even to the extent of a small tree growing among them which indicates many years of neglect. If you must have the planting’s please ensure they have maintained margin to stop weeds filling the margins There seems to be a mistaken belief throughout the city that if you plant native grasses etc it will save on maintenance costs as they won’t need to be weeded Sadly the state of these planting’s is an example of how unkempt and neglected they look Hope on my next walk even if I can’t enjoy the beauty and calm of the river I won’t have a view of unkempt weeds Many thanks Marg Morrison
