The reporter’s words
My neighbours and us are concerned about the speed with which people come up and down Sumner road now that the road is reopened. Even crossing the road from parked car to home at night no longer felt save. We were so concerned that we placed a couple of road cones in the middle of the road on Friday night because boy racers were coming down into Lyttelton at such a high speed and swerving all over the road. Placing the cones definitely helped but a more permanent solution is needed. The noise levels that come with the speeding up and down are also quite high.
