Graffiti on a fence, building or structure
Reported Thursday, 18 December 2025 at 3:55 pm, Canterbury, Christchurch 8011, New Zealand.
The reporter’s words
The Capt. James Cook statue in Victoria Square has been vandalised a long time ago. I sit in this park often and have watched hundreds of tourists stop and take photos and comment on the graffiti. Someone has written ‘This is a fraud’ on the front and spray painted a big Red Cross across his front. This is not a great look to be on display like this for locals and our visitors to see. Can it not be cleaned up, or restored to its previous condition?
