Roading/Streets
Reported Friday, 23 August 2019 at 7:34 pm, Worcester Street, Christchurch, 8011, Canterbury.
The reporter’s words
I used the Worcester street cycle facility for the first time tonight. I have to say I was severely disappointed. Firstly the signals for cyclists crossing madras street at Worcester street. The signals could easily be permanently green for cyclists until the madras street signal faze requires cyclists to stop. This also applies to the cyclist faze of Worcester street at Fitzgerald ave when main traffic faze is active cyclists get red. Otherwise green. The chicanes for cyclist to “avoid” the speed jumps are dangerous. Causing cyclists to weave in and out. The speed humps cause cyclists no problem what so ever. The entire stretch of road can be negotiated by a cyclists as fast as a car, which has to slow for each speed bump. Is it any wonder the general public think these cycle facilities are a waste of money when they see cyclists ignoring the facility. Little do they know that cyclists are ignoring these facilities because they are a hazard and a slower way of completing their journey.
