The reporter’s words

Now that Our Lady of Fatima School has opened the new entrance off Kensington Ave and is encouraging parents to use this rather than the very busy main entrance on Innes Road there is a real hazard for people crossing the road to the school or back through the Patrick Street walkway past the Children's Library (which is also open at school pick up time). Traffic goes through here at speeds well above 50kmh and visibility is poor due to the number of vehicles and the bend in the road. Children and parents are crossing blindly and coming out from between cars. The school zone needs to be extended to this area and other measures such as no parking in front of the library need to be introduced. This is an accident waiting to happen and when the school opens next year the role will be increasing by another 200 plus families so it will only get much worse.
