Roading/Streets
Reported Friday, 24 January 2020 at 5:35 pm, Madras Street, Christchurch, 8013, Canterbury.
The reporter’s words
Crossing this intersection as a pedestrian is very dangerous. If you are crossing from South to North and are on the East side of the intersection, then you do not make it across the intersection before turning traffic turn onto you. Cars assume that you will wait in the middle of the road but this is not practical from a time perspective and because there is no crossing button. The same goes for the opposite direction. I have had many near misses here and at other intersections along Bealey Ave. The time for the red turning arrow should be extended so that it allows people to cross the entire road before cars can turn
