Cute museum ran by very lovely volunteers. Visited this place on the New Brighton Christmas parade day and was delighted to be greeted by Santa coming into the museum! A place to visit when you are in the area. Definitely get some good conversations and first hand infos from the locals here. They are open daily from 1-3PM and got heaps of parking around.

Chuck Biff, 4 months agoThis little museum did a fantastic job staging the 1974 Christchurch Commonwealth Games exhibition. The volunteers were lovely and very enthusiastic, it's well worth a visit if you're in the area. Nostalgic!

The Museum is housed in the old Saint Enochs Church which had it's centenary in 2013. The collection began with photographs only and expanded to include memorabilia of the area. There are many display boards of old photographs (currently undergoing updates) some memorabilia of bygone days of the old pier; the New Brighton Trotting Club; the Champion Surf Life Saving Clubs; the Bowls and Tennis Clubs and the Brass and Silver Bands. Items from a former well known shop in the area are displayed along with the Mayoral Chain when New Brighton was a Borough. Uniforms from the old New Brighton District High School; memorabilia and photographs from the local New Brighton Primary School and some 1974 Commonwealth Games clothing can be viewed.
