  • Outstanding service, food & atmosphere! Bar Yoku is located in The Welder, a short walk from Cathedral Square in Christchurch city centre. This was our first visit to Bar Yoku, but will not be our last. We hadn't booked a table and it was full. However, we waited and had a drink at iMoto bar just opposite (which we also highly recommend). After a short wait, we were invited to a table back in Bar Yoku right next to the kitchen. The menu is fantastic and the dishes are designed for sharing. Considering the quality and quantity of the food, the prices are very good. The atmosphere is lively but Bob P, 3 months ago
  • Really enjoyed our dinner at Bar Yoku as a party of four. We ordered a mix of yakitori (momo, negima, tsukune and wagyu), plus the hot soba and sushi tacos to share. Everything was good, but the momo and wagyu were the standouts for me—super flavourful and cooked perfectly. I’d happily order a few more of those next time. The vibe was lively without being overly noisy, so it was easy to chat while enjoying the food. I also thought the pricing was fair for the quality. We came for a casual dinner, but I reckon it’d also be a great spot to head to for a couple of drinks after dinner. Will defiZack, 2 months ago
  • First time in Christchurch and Reddit told me this was the spot. They are correct! The food is absolutely delicious, the atmosphere is relaxed, and the service is fantastic. We had the unagi taco (rotating menu), pork cutlet (rotating menu), wagu, and broccoli. I took only one photo of the first dish we got and then completely forgot to take more photos bexause the food was so good. By far the star of the show was the pork cutlet. The piece of meat was extremely thick, but the chef cooked it to perfection. It was moist and had so much flavor. I also had the banana Manhattan (i cannot remember Rachael Segraves, 6 months ago

Come through the wilderness of the Welder and step into their urban Izakaya. Whether seated in the darkness of the restaurant or internal garden space, you’ll find a unique experience with something for everyone. They put our own spin on Japanese dining with ‘smokin’ Yakitori, wicked sushi tacos, the freshest raw plates and more tasty Izakaya dishes to share. You’ll find the classics but don’t expect the traditional. To complete your experience choose from a carefully crafted beverage list that is playful, unique and delicious. Inspired by the small laneway Izakaya of Tokyo, Bar Yoku is stoked to bring this experience to the Christchurch dining scene! Open Tuesday - Saturday 11.30am-late
